Roxboro Elementary School won the first-ever SOS soccer tournament, which was held June 2nd at Forest Hills park. Noble Elementary was the runner-up. SOS, which stands for 'Schooled-on-Soccer', is a new outreach program initiated this spring by Eastside Kickers to develop after-school soccer programs in Clev Hts/Univ Hts public elementary schools. The goal was to provide a fun, organized soccer experience for 4th and 5th grade children who are new to the game. Almost 100 kids participated among the six elementary school programs, which included Boulevard (25), Noble (15), Oxford (25), Gearity (10), Fairfax (5) and Roxboro (15). The teams practiced once a week, starting in May, under the supervision of volunteer coaches, most of whom were Heights teachers. The coaches were Sean Sullivan (Oxford and Noble), Fiona Conner-Kuntz (Gearity), Rick Williams (Roxboro), James Hailey (Fairfax), and Gary Wildey (Eastside Kickers). A BIG thanks to all players and coaches for making our inaugural season a success! |
